Blue Inhalers for Asthmatics

It is our practice policy to supply one blue inhaler per issue for our asthmatic population. The National Review of Asthma Deaths report (NRAD, 2014) links over-reliance on blue inhalers with increased deaths from asthma. For good control, you should use your blue inhaler less than three times a week. Each blue inhaler we issue you should last you up to 84 days.

If you are needing to request blue inhalers more frequently than this, we will invite you in for an early review to optimise your preventer therapy. Some of our preventer inhalers now offer a dual function and can be used as both preventer and reliever therapy – the asthma nurse will be able to explain if this is suitable for you. https://www.asthma.org.uk/symptoms-tests-treatments/treatments/mart
