UKHSA has confirmed an outbreak of invasive meningococcal disease affecting young people in the Canterbury area, including University of Kent students. Symptoms can develop quickly, so anyone feeling unwell—especially with signs of meningitis or septicaemia—should seek urgent medical help.
UKHSA is identifying close contacts and arranging antibiotic prophylaxis where needed. A targeted vaccination programme for affected groups is also being introduced.
