Running out of medication over a Bank Holiday?
If you run out of your regular prescription medication over a bank holiday weekend, or if your usual pharmacy is closed, you may be able to get a small emergency supply from another pharmacy using the NHS Emergency Prescription Service.

- Controlled drugs and some other medications cannot be supplied using this service
- If you normally pay for prescriptions, a charge may apply
- In a medical emergency, call 999
- For urgent but non‑life‑threatening problems, contact NHS 111
Plan ahead – order repeat prescriptions early
We strongly encourage patients to order repeat prescriptions in good time before any bank holiday weekend to avoid running out of medication.
Many pharmacies across Bath, Swindon and Wiltshire may be closed on bank holidays, and prescriptions can take up to a week to process. Ordering early helps ensure your medication is ready before services close.
A limited number of pharmacies will remain open on bank holidays for urgent prescriptions.
